Self-promotional

Honestly, that’s my only take away from this week’s House of Punte. But don’t worry, only a dead one.

Creeped out enough? Listen below. And be sure to stick around for Phil’s Olde Tyme Newsreel. Bonus: REAL NFL NEWS ON AN NFL PODCAST. Heck yes.

House of Punte has an awesome interview with Patrick Willis tomorrow. You might remember Willis as San Francisco’s future Hall of Fame linebacker, or as the reason Derek Anderson wishes he was still in Cleveland. Patrick is a bad man. In anticipation, check out this video of his “homegrown” workout.

Also, be sure to check out the gang’s talk with Vikings Punter Chris Kluwe last week. Now that the Vikes have Donovan McNabb, Kluwe will be in for tons more work this season.

This week, House of Punte dips back into The Forgotten Podcasts! Josh explains:

Bryan Douglass (TwitterTumblr) until recently was managing editor ofGunaxin’s sports page. Bryan also did some fantasy writing for Fanball and for other outlets. We discuss whether or not NBA players are actually using cocaine these days, as well as some of the recent happenings in the blogosphere. And for a fantasy sports guy, Bryan really has it in for those sabermetricians.

Maggie Hendricks (Twitter) of CagewriterFourth Place Medal, and NBC Chicago tells us why Chicago being so corrupt is okay and how she got involved in covering MMA. She also relays a comparison between Lovie Smith and a car salesman that struck us as spot-on.

With Amber JonesAaron Merrill and Phil Raintree. Recorded March 1, 2011. Runs 60 minutes.

Bryan is a very nice guy, and loves Justified almost as much as I do. Maggie was very funny. Check it out.

Well, it’s over. Josh is packing his bag and headed to the Dirty South. To close out the DC leg of his media-world-conquest, he put together an all-live show. First, we have newly anointed House Of Punte Legal Analyst Matt DeTura on to discuss, among various miscellany, his three-day run on Jeopardy, and the FBI’s crackdown on the three biggest American online poker sites *COUGHHORSEHOCKEYCOUGH*.

Next up is Tom Bridge, erstwhile editor of We Love DC, which is my favorite local blog. He discusses the local media scene, the debacle with TBD, and gives Josh a list of five things to do before he moves. Josh plans on doing … none of them. I make smart ass comments and talk some football news, and Phil Raintree gives maybe his best olde tyme product placement yet. It runs a solid 100 minutes, perfect for your long drive home for Easter.

Listen at the embedded player below, and follow Josh, me, House of Punte, Phil Raintree, Matt DeTura, and Tom Bridge on the twitter machine.

Two weeks in a row? What are we, podcasting machines? This week on House of Punte, we’re joined by Chimpanzee Rage, of the delightful Deuce of Davenport. Chimp and Punte attended Tuesday night’s Celts (sort of)/Wiz game, courtesy of Ciroc vodka, and they tell tales of good living and poor basketball. Amber Jones reads the news, and I display a disturbing amount of Harry Potter knowledge. We had to cut my ten-minute diatribe about how Kronum should have designated batters, and how the Weasley twins were the Bash Brothers of their era.

As for actual guests, Josh talks to Larry Fitzgerald of the Cardinals, who is a very diplomatic and unassuming gentleman.

AND, since the fancy new redesign, courtesy of Cord, I can finally embed a player. You can listen right here! THE FUTURE IS NOW.

Josh sums up this week’s House of Punte:

John Ezekowitz, a stats expert in the employ of the Phoenix Suns. John is also co-president of the Harvard Sports Analysis Collective and a contributor to College Hoops Journal. I ask him how a sophomore in college gets hired by an NBA team and his newest brainchild, called Free Throw Plus.

Amber Jones reads the news. Aaron Merrill (That’s me! -ed.) compares my head to somebody else’s body part. (Not my finest moment. -ed.) Phil Raintree does the first NFL Old-Timey Newsreel, complete with new “sponsor.”

Serious Fiscal Policy Writing Alert

February 1, 2011

I had this long(ish) piece up today at Neighborhood Effects, so expect less of the genital humor and cute animals you’ve come to expect from us today. It’s a relatively bitter critique of a new fiscal responsibility law, to be proposed today. I think it’s mostly drivel, some of my colleagues are more optimistic. But [...]

The One Where Aaron Probably Had Too Much To Drink

January 28, 2011

Another House of Punte, y’all. And I gotta admit that while it’s probably technically possible to podcast sober … why? This one features the return of Ryan Walsh and everyone’s favorite ADD-addled half-Asian, Shakey. There’s also me and Amber, and of course, the guest, Super Bowl Champion TE Ken Dilger. Listen in! And why was I [...]

New House of Punte, featuring me, Phil Raintree, Amber and of course, Punte himself. We talk to Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog. Despite his team beating my Pats, he makes the shortlist of favorite guests. Listen here, subscribe on iTunes, and laugh at my embarrassment when suddenly I remember Amber is there because she’s saying “deepthroat” right in my [...]
